A woman was shot dead and her husband later died by suicide in a late-night firing incident at a high-rise residential complex in Gujarat Ahmedabad’s Bodakdev-Thaltej area, police said on Thursday. The incident took place around 10.30 pm on Wednesday at NRI Tower, located on Judges Bungalow Road. The deceased have been identified as Yashrajsinh Gohil, a Class I officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board, and his wife Rajeshwari Gohil. Yashrajsinh was the nephew of former Gujarat Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil.
According to the police, the couple had been married for around two months and were living in the apartment where the incident occurred. Preliminary findings suggest that an argument broke out between them late at night over an unknown issue.
During the altercation, Yashrajsinh allegedly shot his wife with his licensed revolver, leaving her critically injured. He then called the 108 emergency service. When ambulance staff arrived at the flat, doctors declared Rajeshwari dead.
Residents of the building reported hearing gunshots, which led to panic in the area. Police teams from the Vastrapur police station, the Crime Branch, and senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police, rushed to the scene. The apartment complex was cordoned off, entry and exit points were restricted, and additional security was deployed. A forensic team later examined the flat.
