The establishment of Philippine curriculum-based schools overseas was prompted by the large Filipino diaspora since the global oil crisis of the 1970s. After some time, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) announced on its official Facebook page that there were 35 accredited Philippine Schools Overseas (PSOs) that adhered to the standards, regulations, and requirements of the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd).
The Inter-Agency Committee on Philippine Schools Overseas is led by the CFO, which reports directly to the Office of the President.
It is essential to the monitoring and evaluation of PSOs in collaboration with DepEd.
Five of the ten recognised PSOs in the United Arab Emirates are part of the Al Ansari Education Group (AEG), according to the CFO advise, which was re-shared 329 times as of 4:40 p.m. on February 21.
These include the Universal Philippine School in Al Ain, two New Filipino Private Schools (NFPS) in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, and two Far Eastern Private Schools (FEPS) in Sharjah. The Philippine School, the Philippine Global School, and the Philippine Emirates Private School are all located in Abu Dhabi.
