Alireza Tangsiri, the Commander of the Guards Navy, Was killed, According to Iran

Iran acknowledged on Monday that the leader of the Revolutionary Guards’ naval force, whom Israel had said was in charge of obstructing the Strait of Hormuz, had been killed in an Israeli strike. Alireza Tangsiri “succumbed to severe injuries” after the attack last week, according to a statement published on the Guards’ Sepah News website.

Tangsiri was described as the “man who was directly responsible for the terrorist operation of mining and blocking the Strait of Hormuz” by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who declared on Thursday that he had been killed by an Israeli airstrike. Iran has maintained a de facto embargo on the vital canal since the war began, which is now in its second month, driving up energy costs worldwide.

He was planning coastal defenses when he was slain, according to the Guards statement, and he made a pledge “that we will not rest until the enemy is completely destroyed.” He is the most recent high-ranking Iranian official whose death in the conflict has been verified by Tehran. The Islamic republic’s strong security head, Ali Larijani, was assassinated earlier this month along with more than a dozen other notable individuals, and supreme leader Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28, the first day of the conflict.
