Cyber Security Council Emphasizes the Necessity to Safeguard Digital Identity

The UAE Cyber Security Council has emphasized the need of safeguarding digital identities, characterizing them as one of the most precious assets for both individuals and institutions. The council stated that data linked to digital identity, including personal information, financial transactions, and health records, is a critical asset that must be carefully protected.

According to statements made to Emirates News Agency (WAM), the proliferation of artificial intelligence tools, the Internet of Things, and cloud applications has made digital identity an easy target for cyber attackers, who exploit vulnerabilities for impersonation, fraud, or black-market data sales. It emphasized that preserving digital identity is not a technical luxury, but rather a requirement for maintaining privacy, preventing fraud, and ensuring the continuity of digital services without disruption or severe financial loss.

The council stated that evidence show a significant increase in cyberattacks targeting digital identities, up 32% in the first half of this year, owing to the increased reliance on digital services and smart apps.

It emphasized the necessity of implementing advanced solutions like multi-factor authentication, which has been shown to prevent more than 99 percent of identity-related assaults, making it one of the most effective tools for user safety.
