Dubai Beats its Own World record for the Least Period Without Electricity
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority said that it has set a new world record for the fewest electricity customer minutes lost per year, at 49 seconds (0.82 minutes), breaking its own record. The average duration of a customer’s power supply interruption is referred to as CML. Dewa previously achieved a world record of 0.94 minutes in 2024.One of the important programs is the Automatic Smart Grid Restoration System, which is the first of its kind in the region, he said. “The system enables remote, round-the-clock control, management and monitoring without human intervention, through innovative centralised systems that automatically locate and isolate faults and restore service, accelerating power restoration and increasing reliability.”
“We use cutting-edge Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, and are fully integrating them into Dewa’s strategy and operations. The smart grid is a critical component of Dewa’s goal to supply services with the best levels of availability, reliability, and efficiency,” the director stated.
Dewa has been effectively reducing lost customer time since more than a decade. It reduced CML from 6.88 minutes per year in 2012 to 0.82 minutes per year in 2025, which is much less than the average of nearly 15 minutes observed by Europe’s largest utilities.
