
A teenage assailant used a knife to murder two ladies in a shopping mall in the Czech city of Hradec Kralove on Thursday before being taken into custody, according to police. In the city 110 kilometres (68 miles) east of Prague, police were looking into the reason behind the attack.
In a post on X, the police stated, “Despite our arrival on the scene within minutes of the report, both victims suffered injuries so severe that they could not be saved despite all responders’ efforts. A police official told the online news site Novinky.cz that the attack happened at one of the stores at the outdoor retail centre. The victims were store employees.
According to the spokesman, a knife with a blade that was roughly 20 centimetres (8 inches) long was discovered close to the scene, and the suspected male assailant, a 16-year-old Czech national, was taken into custody 10 minutes after the event, less than a kilometre away.
Before stating that the victims had died as a result of their injuries, police had first claimed that they had been injured in the attack. Resuscitation efforts lasted approximately forty minutes, according to a paramedic who responded to the incident and spoke to Novinky.cz.
