A woman was ordered by the Al Ain Civil, Commercial, and Administrative Cases Court to pay Dhs10,000 in compensation to another woman for using derogatory language on social media, which tarnished her reputation and good standing. The victim suffered material and moral harm as a result of the woman’s insult, which included psychological distress and embarrassment in the presence of others, as well as an infringement upon her dignity, social standing, and professional reputation.
The victim previously filed a lawsuit against the defendant, requesting that the court obligate her to pay her Dhs35,000 in compensation for the material and moral harms caused, as well as to resolve the incurred fees and expenses.
The plaintiff claimed that the defendant had offended her on social media by using language that was offensive to her dignity and reputation. This incident was the subject of a previous criminal case in which the defendant was sentenced to one month in prison, a three-year stay of execution, and a fine of Dhs10,000.
The defendant appealed the judgment, and the Court of Appeal accepted it in form but rejected it on the merits, thereby upholding the appealed judgment. The judgement became final as it was not further challenged.
