According to the Moon Village Association (MVA), a non-governmental organization that encourages worldwide cooperation to grow the lunar economy, the establishment of the Moon Village Centre in Abu Dhabi is the result of a major new partnership with the United Arab Emirates.
In addition to hosting the MVA’s 9th Annual Workshop and Symposium in November 2025, Abu Dhabi will host the major event for the July celebrations of International Moon Day the following year.
The proposed alliance acknowledges the UAE’s noteworthy dedication to promoting space innovation and diplomacy, as well as its increasing impact in the global space industry.
The general public celebrates International Moon Day, a United Nations-designated international day, all throughout the world. It was initially suggested by the MVA and is commemorated annually on July 20th to commemorate the first human landing on the moon in 1969. It highlights efforts for sustainable Moon exploration and use and takes into account the accomplishments of all States in Moon exploration.
There are two components to the plans for International Moon Day in 2025. Abu Dhabi will host the major event, while several smaller international competitions are anticipated to occur across six continents.
