The Book Addresses Maternal Mental Health Difficulties

During Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, a global initiative aimed at fostering dialogue and altering perceptions on mental health issues in motherhood, the Arabic version of “This Is Postpartum” was introduced in the United Arab Emirates.

The book, which was translated from its original English title and released by Dubai-based publisher The Dreamwork Collective in 2020, was written by Tilda Klumpenaar, a therapist who specialises in treating pregnant and postpartum depression (PPD).

Klumpenaar’s book, which was inspired by her personal experiences with postpartum depression, is a straightforward collection of true tales and tried-and-true advice to help parents regain their lives and feel more content, confident, and balanced in their new position. Klumpenaar explained why she wrote the book, saying, “I felt so guilty and ashamed when I went through postpartum depression.” I pondered how other mothers were handling this situation. I constantly felt very alone. When I eventually received mental health treatment from an excellent therapist, she informed me that I had never heard of PPD since most women don’t discuss it and that all mothers experience guilt and shame when they have it.
