On Tuesday, a fire broke out at a seven-story building in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta, killing 20 people, according to officials.
Susatyo Purnomo Condro, the commander of Central Jakarta police, told reporters that the fire has been contained and that efforts to find more probable victims inside the building continue.
According to Condro, the fire started on the first level around lunchtime and spread to the upper stories. Some colleagues were eating lunch in the building at the time, while others had left the office, he explained.
The building houses Terra Drone Indonesia’s office, which supplies drones for aerial survey tasks for clients in industries ranging from mining to agricultural.
According to the company’s website, it is the Indonesian subsidiary of Japanese drone manufacturer Terra Drone Corporation. Kompas TV footage showed dozens of firefighters attempting to remove individuals inside the building, with some carrying body bags. Some workers were also seen evacuating from the building’s upper floors using portable ladders. Neither company replied promptly to email requests for comment.
