Heavy Metal’s Godfather, Ozzy Osbourne, Who Fronted Black Sabbath, Passes Away

Only a few weeks after his final performance, Ozzy Osbourne, the melancholy, demon-invoking lead vocalist of the groundbreaking band Black Sabbath, passed away on Tuesday. He was known for his growling, throaty voice and heavy metal id, which was destroyed by drugs and drink. His age was 76.

We must announce with more sorrow than words can express that our dear Ozzy Osbourne died away this morning. He was surrounded by affection and by his family. A family statement said, “At this time, we ask everyone to respect our family privacy.” After a fall in 2020, he disclosed that he had Parkinson’s disease.

The singer, who was either bare-chested or dressed in black, was frequently the target of parent organizations because to his images. He even made a stir by chewing the head off a bat. He would later depict himself as a lovely and doddering father on the reality TV program “The Osbournes.”

The 1969 self-titled first album by Black Sabbath has been compared to heavy metal’s Big Bang. It crashed the hippie party at the height of the Vietnam War, brimming with dread and menace. The record’s cover featured a scary figure set against a desolate backdrop. The music signalled a change in rock ‘n’ roll and was loud, furious, and thick.
