Houthis Report Fresh Assaults on The Airport in Aden, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia

As the escalation deepened the next front in the Iran war and endangered a vital maritime alternative to the Strait of Hormuz, Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen on Wednesday claimed strikes on military installations and airports in neighbouring Saudi Arabia.

Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, the military spokeswoman for the Houthis, claimed on social media that the rebels used drones and ballistic missiles to assault King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh, but he offered no proof. Tracking website Flightradar24 reported that there was a brief disruption to flights to and from the airport.

According to Saree, Houthi drones and missiles frequently target Abha airport. Additionally, the rebels claimed to have attacked two military bases, Najran and Asir, as well as an aviation facility near Khamis Mushait. They are all located close to the Yemeni border in southwest Saudi Arabia.

A ballistic missile was intercepted and destroyed north of Riyadh, according to Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis. During fighting with the Houthi group in the Dhobab district of Taiz, Yemen, fighters from the Southern Giants Brigades, which are associated with the Yemeni government, fired a weapon placed on a pickup truck. In an effort to recapture land that the Houthis took approximately a month ago along Yemen’s western Red Sea coast and on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, Saudi Arabia and allied Yemeni forces have just begun a significant ground and air operation against the Houthis.
