US Strikes Iran Over the Incident That killed Servicemen in Jordan

The US military conducted airstrikes on Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard on Sunday in retaliation for the killing of American personnel in Jordan, deepening the conflict between the two countries as they fight over the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes, part of a weeklong campaign in which Iran has targeted US-allied countries across the Middle East, come as an interim deal to stop the Iran war collapses.

The US has struck bridges, electrical infrastructure, and other targets in Iran, and Tehran has countered by attacking power and desalination plants in Kuwait, endangering daily life in the small, oil-rich desert nation. Iran has also increased its threats to escalate the strikes.

Kuwait activated its air defenses again on Sunday morning, warning of an impending Iranian drone and missiles. The US Central Command claimed in a statement that it attacked “Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites.” It also stated for the first time that it is targeting the Guard, a critical power structure in Iran’s theocracy that oversees its ballistic missile arsenal.
