Israel Attacks Lebanon with Additional Airstrikes

As Israeli leaders seemed to be drawing closer to a negotiated truce with Hizbollah, Israel’s military began airstrikes across Lebanon on Monday, causing explosions throughout the nation and killing at least 31 people.

Israeli strikes have damaged residential and commercial structures in Tyre, a port city, and Beirut. They struck what military officials described as Hizbollah strongholds. They ordered the southern suburbs of Beirut to be evacuated, and strikes occurred all throughout the city, including just meters from the city’s biggest public park and a Lebanese police base.

The assault occurred as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Security Cabinet was getting ready to consider a proposal on the table and officials said they were getting closer to reaching a ceasefire accord.

As Israeli jets bombarded the southern suburbs of Beirut, massive explosions sent towering plumes of smoke into the air and illuminated Lebanon’s skies with orange lights. The explosions destroyed buildings, and neighbouring streets were littered with broken glass and debris. Many residents fled the targeted places, but no injuries were reported.

Some of the strikes fell near Christian neighborhoods, central Beirut, and other locations where Israel had issued evacuation orders, such as Tyre and the province of Nabatiyeh. The Baalbek-Hermel region in the northeast was also unexpectedly struck by Israeli aircraft.
