Jebel Ali Port Celebrates the New Gemini Service’s Historic First Call

Under the historic Gemini Cooperation, a strategic partnership between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk with the goal of strengthening the ocean freight network and international trade connections, DP World has welcomed the first vessel to arrive at Jebel Ali Port.

The Gemini network reached a significant milestone on February 5th when the 15,000-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containership MV Houston Express moored at Jebel Ali Port.As a member of the Indian Ocean Service, the ship enhances trade between North and South Europe, the Middle East, and the Indian Subcontinent. Senior management from DP World and Hapag-Lloyd threw a special reception at Jebel Ali Port to mark the occasion, highlighting the port’s crucial role in international supply networks.

With 57 mainliner and shuttle services, the network operates about 340 contemporary ships, many of which are switching to cleaner fuels. The first Gemini Cooperation vessel’s arrival at Jebel Ali Port solidifies our position as the premier maritime hub in the Middle East,” stated Shahab Al Jassmi, Senior Vice President of Ports & Terminals Commercial, DP World GCC.

DP World is a reliable partner for shipping lines because of the effectiveness and dependability of our port operations, as well as the sophisticated logistics capabilities of our hub. We anticipate deepening our relationship as the Gemini network improves supply chain resilience throughout the global trade network.
