Monkeys on Runway Force a Flight to Abort Take-Off in India

An IndiGo flight headed for Raipur had to abandon its takeoff at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport when a bunch of monkeys was observed crossing the runway, officials said on Friday.

According to airport sources, flight 6E 6521, which carried roughly 150 passengers, began its takeoff roll at 9 a.m. on Thursday. The airplane had crossed about 20 to 30 percent of the runway when the pilots noticed monkeys on the tarmac. Acting quickly, the crew aborted the takeoff in accordance with safety regulations and immediately notified air traffic control.

The aircraft was then led back to the bay. Officials confirmed that the jet departed almost an hour later after refueling. A significant amount of gasoline was used during the failed takeoff, necessitating refueling before the airplane could begin its voyage. The event also caused delays and had an impact on other flights departing from the airport.

According to sources, about 10 minutes before the event, an Air India Express flight that had just landed reported monkeys near the runway. Despite the warning, the IndiGo flight was cleared for takeoff shortly after, but was forced to land owing to the animals on the runway.
