The first-ever ALA Sharjah School Librarians Conference, hosted by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), will begin at Expo Centre Sharjah on Tuesday, marking an important milestone for the region’s library and education sectors.
Leading authorities in the field of school libraries, as well as school librarians, teachers, and education supervisors from the United Arab Emirates and other countries, will be present at the event, which runs till April 16.
The conference, which is being organized in partnership with the American Library Association (ALA), provides school librarians with an invaluable chance to share expertise, investigate best practices in library administration, and hone their abilities to tackle the problems of modern education.
Becky Calzada, President of the American Association of School Librarians and Library Services Coordinator at the Leander Independent School District in Texas, will provide the keynote lecture to kick off the conference. Her talk will focus on how libraries can improve learning environments and build solid relationships with schools. A number of specialized seminars and sessions are part of the program.
Dr. Margaret Merga, an associate professor at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle, Australia, will lead a seminar on the importance of reading for pleasure and its role in fostering a school reading culture.
