Submissions for the Sharjah Children’s Book Award, the Sharjah Audio Book Award, and the Sharjah Children’s Book Award for Visually Impaired are still being accepted until March 31 for the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, which the Sharjah Book Authority runs. Expo Centre Sharjah will host the festival from April 23 to May 4, 2025.
The three prizes, with a combined prize value of Dhs110,000, honour writers who produce high-calibre literary works and promote children’s literature. They are intended to foster children’s intellectual and creative capacities, raise children’s awareness, cultivate their literary taste, and improve children’s literature in the Arab world and beyond.
The three winners of the Sharjah Children’s Book Award—Best Arabic Children’s Book (ages 4–12), Best Arabic Young Adult Book (ages 13–17), and Best English Children’s Book (ages 7–13)—will each get an equal share of the Dhs60,000 total award.
Submissions must be original, recently published, and no more than two years after the first edition’s release. The award is intended for publishers, authors, and illustrators. Winners must wait two years before reapplying in the same category; only the first edition is eligible.
The winning book will be published and distributed worldwide as part of the Dhs20,000 prize offered by the Sharjah Children’s Book Award for Visually Impaired. The award aims to support blind and VI children by enabling them to read books with their sighted friends.
