Sheikh Sultan Visits the President of the National Library of France in Sharjah

His Highness. Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Sharjah’s Supreme Council Member and Ruler, met with Gilles Pécout, President of the National Library of France, and his entourage at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre (Dara).

During the meeting, joined by Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), His Highness welcomed the French group. He described the significance of the Dara, which holds a large collection of books, manuscripts, and rare artefacts.

Dr Sheikh Sultan, accompanied by a French delegation, inspected the library’s Arabic and English departments, displaying its large collection of books, medals, honorary degrees, and keepsakes. The tour also included historical images of His Highness with world leaders and renowned prizes that recognised his substantial accomplishments in various fields.

The delegation examined major historical artefacts such as maps, documents, manuscripts, pictures, and video and audio recordings. This collection includes actual historical sources that shed light on the region’s past, as well as original papers and illustrations depicting key historical events.

Following the tour, discussions focused on enhancing Sharjah’s cultural and literary engagement with the French National Library. His Highness and Gilles Pécout exchanged gifts and swapped publications, strengthening the two institutions’ friendship.
