The Middle East’s Cybersecurity Issues are Highlighted in the Report

Advanced Persistent Attacks (APTs) and hacktivism are examples of state-sponsored cyberthreats that increased in the Middle East in 2024, with GCC nations becoming the main targets. According to a report published by Group-IB, a prominent developer of cybersecurity technology that investigates, detects, and combats digital crime, geopolitical disputes primarily drive these attacks.

Group-IB’s High-Tech Crime Trends Report 2025, which was just released, thoroughly examines the interdependencies among cybercrimes and the changing cyberthreat environment in the Middle East and Africa. The paper provides valuable information on hacktivism, advanced persistent threats, and new cyberthreats, giving Middle Eastern companies, cybersecurity experts, and law enforcement the knowledge they need to improve their cybersecurity plans.

According to the report, while the number of APTs in the region increased by 4.27 percent, compared to a global jump of 58 percent, 27.5% of these threats were specifically directed at GCC countries by state-backed espionage groups.

Ashraf Koheil, Group-IB’s Regional Sales Director MEA, commented on the research’s release, saying: “Our report captures the dynamic and complex nature of cyber threats faced by the Middle East today.” It demonstrates that cybercrime is a dynamic ecosystem in which one attack feeds the next, rather than a collection of discrete occurrences. Organizations looking to improve their cybersecurity defences must take note of the findings in this research, which cover everything from sophisticated state-sponsored attacks to quickly changing hacktivism and phishing efforts.
