In support of the UAE’s national anti-drug campaign, which was started this year by the National Anti-Narcotics Council under the banner “Uniting to Eradicate the Scourge,” Dubai Customs has introduced a new fleet of vehicles for its K9 Unit in conjunction with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The new fleet is a component of Dubai Customs’ plan to update its system of customs inspections and improve the operational preparedness of its specialized units, such as the K9 Unit, which is vital in defending the nation’s economy and society against attempts to smuggle drugs and other illegal substances through its border crossings.
According to Dubai Customs, the two new cars were constructed to the strictest international standards in order to satisfy the K9 Unit’s operational needs. They are made to give the best levels of safety for both humans and canines, increase field inspection efficiency, and speed up response times to inspection requests from customs centers.
Thermal sensors that continuously assess kennel temperatures, driver-attention monitoring systems, and cameras that track and record the dogs’ activities inside the kennels are just a few of the smart technologies that are installed into the vehicles. To protect the dogs during field operations, the driver and assistant receive immediate alerts when temperatures exceed safe limits.
