Pakistan Finds a Third Case of mpox; Another Suspected Patient is Taken to the Hospital

According to Dawn on Saturday, which cited officials, the Peshawar airport confirmed the third case of the Mpox virus in Pakistan. Dr. Irshad Ali Roghani, the director of public health for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has announced that a second suspected patient has also been admitted to a hospital.

The WHO has made it clear that the Mpox outbreak is not another Covid-19 pandemic, pointing out that the virus and its containment methods are well understood.

The first case of Mppox to be identified in Pakistan, according to the health ministry, involved the Clade 2 variant. According to Dawn, the second case of M-Pox was confirmed last week, and the patient was also identified at Peshawar airport.

Medical staff at Bacha Khan International Airport identified two travellers who were exhibiting Mpox symptoms on Thursday. For prompt medical attention, they were moved to the Police and Services Hospital (PSH).

This is Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s third verified case of mpox in 2024, according to Roghani, who also noted that no cases that were locally transmitted had been documented up to that point. “The Rapid Response Team took the patient’s samples and sent them to the laboratory.”

Awaiting results, samples from the second patient, a 47-year-old Peshawar man, were also sent to the lab for examination.
