The US and its Allies Demand For an Immediate 21-Day Ceasefire Between Israel and Hizbollah

The United States, France, and other allies called on Wednesday for an urgent 21-day ceasefire to enable for negotiations in the intensifying battle between Israel and Hezbollah, which has killed over 600 people in Lebanon in recent days. The countries pushing for an end to the Israel-Hizbollah conflict include the United States, Australia, Canada, the European Union, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.

According to the joint statement, which was draughted on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, the recent fighting is “intolerable and presents an unacceptable risk of a broader regional escalation.” “We call for an immediate 21-day ceasefire across the Lebanon-Israel border to provide space for diplomacy,” according to the statement. “We call on all parties, including the governments of Israel and Lebanon, to endorse the temporary ceasefire immediately.”

Israeli hardliners reject a ceasefire deal. However, hardline allies in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition rejected US and French plans for a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon to allow for a diplomatic solution. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who leads one of the coalition’s two nationalist-religious factions, stated that Hizbollah must be annihilated and that only its capitulation will allow evacuees to return.
