Man’s Tickets and Hotel Stay in the United Arab Emirates Require a Woman to Pay Him Dhs 299,000

A woman was ordered by the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court to pay Dhs299,722 to a colleague who used his connections with airlines and travel agencies to book hotel rooms and plane tickets for her and her family. She promised to pay him later, but he never did, even after she returned.

The complainant claimed that, despite obtaining a discount from the travel agency, he was compelled to pay Dhs333,025 for business-class tickets and hotel bookings himself, as the woman had left and returned without paying for them.

When the judge questioned the plaintiff during the trial, he confirmed that he had paid Dhs299,722 for the appellee and her family’s tickets and lodging, but that she had refused to pay despite his repeated efforts, so he had to pay for it out of pocket. He also mentioned that he had a witness to back up his assertion.

The plaintiff, who was responsible for making bookings at work, presented the tickets and reservations as a gift, which the appellee accepted. He claimed that only after a considerable delay did he demand payment, proving that it was a gift. Under oath, the witness—a travel agency employee—stated that the plaintiff had sought reservations for a female employee and her family, totalling about Dhs290,000.
