The UAE Introduces The First AI-Based Alzheimer’s and Dementia Treatment in the Region

At Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation (MBRCGI) and the Emirates Health Services Establishment began the first stage of clinical testing for synthetic memory technology. In keeping with World Alzheimer’s Day, this is the first step of its type in the area.

By creating realistic digital memories that replicate instances from the patients’ life that have started to fade, the innovative study seeks to aid in the treatment of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. Its use of generative artificial intelligence techniques helps to improve the psychological and emotional reactions of the patients as well as stimulate their memories.

After a specialized training program was put in place to prepare psychologists to use the technology within specific treatment plans, the project is being carried out in collaboration with the Spanish company Domestic Data Streamers.

To create visual and customised content for use in a therapeutic setting, backed by the latest AI technologies, the innovation integrates data supplied by patients or their families. This enhances the quality of life for the elderly and people with memory impairments. The center gathered archival video of the UAE from a variety of historical eras, including the 1950s and 1960s, before the federation’s formation, to fit the technology to the local culture.
