The Palestinian organization stated on Sunday that Hamas has broadened its search for hostage bodies in the Gaza Strip, one day after Egypt sent a team of specialists and heavy machinery to assist with their recovery.
Hamas anticipated returning the remains of all Israeli hostages as soon as possible under the ceasefire mediated by the United States, which went into effect on October 10. Israel has committed to returning 15 Palestinian bodies for every one.
Although Hamas hasn’t released any hostages in five days, it has returned the remains of fifteen. The bodies of 195 Palestinians, many of whom were unidentified, have been returned by Israel. Teams from the Red Cross and Egypt have been allowed to look for dead captives’ bodies outside the yellow line indicating the Israeli military’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
The ceasefire proposal calls for more complex measures, such as Hamas’ disarmament and the postwar administration of famine-stricken Gaza, where the UN and allies are still pleading with Israel to permit additional humanitarian aid. Apart from quick visits with Israel’s military, international media have been prohibited from entering Gaza, and Israel confirmed on Sunday that this hasn’t changed.
