After a Dispute, The Gaza Water Provider Has Resumed Services

After Hamas-led security released a staff member who had been held on Monday, a Gaza company that runs water desalination plants servicing over half of the enclave’s population announced it had resumed operations.

The Abdul Salam Yassin Company, which provides services to over a million people, stated in a statement that the staff member was “fine and in good health” and that the decision to resume operations came once the problem was fixed. The business expressed regret for what it claimed was a “misunderstanding” that resulted in the employee’s detention and reaffirmed their regard for the Hamas-led administration in Gaza. Although Hamas government representatives declined to comment on the arrest, a source on Wednesday confirmed the employee’s release without providing further details on his detention.

As negotiations over the future of the war-torn Palestinian territory continue, the Palestinian organization has been progressively regaining control in parts of Gaza from which Israeli forces have left under an October 10 ceasefire agreement. Early in the conflict, in October 2023, Israel cut off all supplies of electricity and water to Gaza; however, the blockade was eventually partially lifted.
