The UAE has sent its condolences and support to Turkey after a military plane disaster killed the pilot. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) sent its deepest sympathies and compassion to the victim’s family and the people and government of Turkey in a statement.
Early on Wednesday, a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter plane crashed along a highway in western Turkey, killing its pilot, according to officials and news reports. A defense ministry statement says that radio and radar contact with the plane was lost just after midnight, when it took off from the 9th Main plane Base in Balikesir province.
The government said that search and rescue efforts started right away and that the wreckage was quickly found. The pilot had been “martyred.” Hurriyet newspaper said that the plane crashed along a part of the Istanbul-Izmir highway, sending debris flying over a large region. Police, firefighters, and medical teams were sent to the area. The ministry added that the cause of the incident remains unknown and that an accident inquiry team will investigate.
