The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ordered a woman to pay Dhs225,000 and fined her Dhs10,000 as compensation to a man who had sued her. In the lawsuit, the man asked that she pay him Dhs225,000 in addition to Dhs20,000 in compensation, a 5% annual legal interest from the date of claim until full payment, fees, expenses, and attorney’s fees.
The complainant filed his complaint on the grounds that he deposited Dhs225,000 to the woman’s account in two installments, Dhs150,000 and Dhs75,000, after she requested a loan owing to her financial difficulties.
According to what was established through exchanged chats via an internet program, the woman allegedly confirmed receiving the money and promised to refund it, but she refused to pay despite repeated requests. He suffered both material and moral harm as a result of her silence.
The woman acknowledged the debt and admitted to paying the amount at issue, according to the court’s explanation of the case papers, documents, and electronic conversations between the two parties. However, she failed to provide evidence that her liability had been absolved.
