
In relation to the historic implementation of overseas online voting (OOV) for the general/midterm elections scheduled for April 13 to May 12, the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi posted a press statement on its Facebook page on Monday night from the Manila-based Commission on Elections (COMELEC) regarding alleged irregularities that overseas Filipino voters (OFVs) in other countries encountered.
Gulf Today reported on Facebook early Monday morning that at least two supporters of former Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and his daughter, incumbent Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, had had their ballots altered.
By mid-afternoon, a Filipino living in the Netherlands shared on Facebook the “Ano ito Comelec” (What is this Comelec?) tirade of an unnamed OFV, which was published by a confident “Leonar Maria” after being uploaded by a certain “Abines Ernesto Jr.” “Duterte Candidates must be OFWs.” But lumabas to Sotto, Pacquiao, Tulfo, Brosas, and Bosita! What is Comelec?
The three-page COMELEC statement, which was written in Filipino, specifically mentioned the post published by a certain “Kiffy Chu” that of a Singaporean “Jefferson Salazar Bonoan” that was going viral on Facebook. The COMELEC responded by the out that the Facebook post included screenshots of the sequence of scripts and the complainant’s “specific official digital ballot, before this was cast.
