A Suicide Strike on a Checkpoint in the Pakistani City of Bannu claimed the Lives of Fifteen Police Men

A Bannu police spokesperson confirmed on Sunday that terrorists crashed an explosives-laden vehicle into a checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district late on Saturday night, resulting in a massive explosion that destroyed the post and trapped several officers under the debris, killing at least 15 police officers and injuring three more.

A suicide bomber crashed an explosives-laden car into a police checkpoint in Bannu’s Fateh Khel neighborhood last night, and other militants then broke inside the post, Bannu police official Muhammad Sajjad Khan told the media.

As part of a surge of militancy that has strained relations between Islamabad and Kabul, he added that 15 officers were verified deceased in the most recent incident in the border state of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Following the car explosion, gunmen stormed the police checkpost and opened fire, according to officials who claimed they also used small drones in the attack. “During the assault, the militants used quadcopters along with heavy weaponry,” a senior administrative official in Bannu told the media on condition of anonymity. In the meantime, hundreds of people flocked to the Bannu police headquarters on Sunday to attend the officers’ burials.
