According to her brother’s upcoming book, which was released on Thursday, King Charles of Britain sounded “like a lottery winner” following the passing of his late first wife Diana. According to excerpts in the Daily Mail, Diana’s brother Charles Spencer said that the then-Prince Charles was “giddily elated” in the immediate wake of Diana’s death in 1997, presumably because he believed it meant he was freer to marry again.
After the Daily Mail published the first excerpts from Spencer’s book, Charles took the rare step of responding to criticism on Wednesday, saying through a spokeswoman that grief might affect memory, reason, and judgement.
The most recent paragraphs, which also said that Diana visited a location of numerous suicides on Britain’s south coast but that her love for her kids, William and Harry, “stopped her from going further,” were met with no additional remarks from the king.”It is a sad fact that, in her later years, Diana drove herself more than once to Beachy Head, the highest chalk sea cliff in England, while contemplating ending it all,” Spencer said.
