Last Saturday, 16-year-old Rashid Juma Ali Al Mazrouei drowned in Adhan Dam in the Al Aym neighborhood of Ras Al Khaimah; his cousin, who was with him at the time, survived. Residents of seven nearby towns Al Aym, Adhan, Al Ghail, Wadi Kub and Al Ais, which belong to Ras Al Khaimah, and Wadi Al Tawyeen and Al Sarm, which belong to Fujairah, demanded that barriers be built around the area’s dams in order to stop these kinds of hazardous incidents from happening again.
Last Sunday, a large group of people from the seven, among others, attended Rashid’s funeral, which took place at 6 a.m. in Al Aym cemetery. The event happened around 4:30 p.m., following the Asr prayer, and my son, who is in the tenth grade, was the victim.
Rashid’s father, Juma Al Mazrouei, stated, “My son’s foot slipped and he fell into the dam’s basin. He was riding with his cousin on a bicycle when fate brought them to the dam in our area of Al Aym, also known as Wadi Al Aym Dam. They stopped the bike and got off to walk on the edge of the dam because there is no fence between the land and the water.
