The State Department announced on Tuesday that it is preparing a limited release of commemorative US passports marking America’s 250th birthday, featuring a photo of President Donald Trump, who would be the first living president to appear on the travel document.
The design for the special passport, which included a depiction of Trump’s stern-looking countenance, had been discussed for months before it was approved late Monday. The passports will initially be offered only to applicants at the passport office in Washington, D.C., and only upon request. The State Department will release a limited number of specially designed US passports to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary in July. Applicants who do not want the commemorative passport can choose a standard one, according to officials. “These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. passport the most secure document in the world.”
Except for the inclusion of Trump’s image to an inside page of the passport book, there will be few other modifications, including the cover, which will display the “United States of America” in large gold print at the top and “Passport” at the bottom – a reversal of the usual cover. A small gold-laminated American flag with the number 250, ringed by stars, will be placed at the bottom of the rear cover.
