Two Arabs were fined Dhs6,200 and given a six-month jail sentence by the Dubai Criminal Court for stealing two electric bicycles from an authorised parking spot in front of a retail centre in the Marina neighbourhood.
Additionally, the court mandated that they be deported from the nation once their sentence was served. An Asian couple reported their stolen electric bicycles to the police in March 2024, which is when the crime was first detailed.
According to the husband’s statement during the interrogation, he and his wife went into the shopping centre, and when they came out, they saw that the bicycles’ locks were broken and that they had been stolen. He also discovered the broken lock in the same place, so he reported the occurrence to the police.
A police officer stated that a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) gathered the evidence and examined the CCTV footage from the area around the scene, which revealed the two suspects breaking the bicycle locks and taking off with them. One of them was taken into custody once they were identified. During questioning, he denied stealing the bicycles and stated that he discovered them with his friend (the second suspect), who believed them to be theirs.
