In Pakistan’s AJK Region, Soldiers Grieve the Deaths of an Army Chopper Mishap

On Thursday, Pakistani soldiers prayed over the coffins of security personnel who perished in a chopper crash in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) that left no survivors. Officials confirmed on Thursday that there were no survivors after rescuers found the corpses of all 22 soldiers on board a military chopper that crashed near Muzaffarabad the day before.

According to an AFP correspondent, dozens of locals attended the ceremony in Muzaffarabad, where about 20 coffins were covered in Pakistani flags, along with soldiers dressed in military fatigues.

According to the military, a mechanical issue caused the army chopper to crash on Wednesday close to Muzaffarabad. Shahid Wani, a 53-year-old citizen of Muzaffarabad, stated, “The people of Kashmir salute all these brave martyrs and honor their courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the nation.”

The coffins were loaded onto ambulances after the ceremony so that the victims’ remains could be transported to their hometowns for burial. At a funeral, an Associated Press reporter counted twenty-two coffins covered in Pakistan’s national flag. The troops’ remains were found in the severely charred wreckage, according to witnesses and local authorities.
