In Zanzibar, Sheikha Jawaher Establishes a Mobile Clinic

Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF) and UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Children, has launched “The Big Heart Mobile Medical Services” on Unguja island in Zanzibar, Tanzania, marking a significant step towards realising the UAE’s vision and Sharjah’s efforts to improve healthcare access in underserved regions worldwide.

The outcome of a collaboration established in 2019 between Aster Volunteers and The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF), the mobile clinics are presently functioning in eight nations, namely Ethiopia, Sudan, Somaliland, Iraq, Lebanon, and Bangladesh. To date, 1,937 medical camps have positively impacted the lives of 178,740 beneficiaries. This year, the project has grown to encompass four nations: Tanzania, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Zanzibar.

Aster and TBHF have pledged to manage the clinic for a minimum of ten years, with the aim of improving the lives of two hundred fifty thousand people in Zanzibar, especially those who lack access to basic healthcare and live in isolated regions.

The mobile clinic will offer essential health services like blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, and sporadic cholesterol or ECG checks. It will be run in partnership with local partners, such as the Zanzibar Ministry of Health (MoH), Muhimbili National Hospital, and the State University of Zanzibar.

Multilingual health talks will cover a range of subjects, including Basic Life Support (BLS) Awareness. In addition, the clinic will actively engage in influential health campaigns coordinated with regional partners, strengthening its dedication to the community’s well-being.
