India Increases Cooking Gas and Airline Fuel Cost

According to a state-run energy company, India increased the cost of jet fuel and commercial liquified petroleum gas for foreign aircraft on Friday due to increased supply strain from the Iran war. The country in South Asia is largely reliant on imported energy, including about 60% of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which is used by a sizable portion of its population—the largest in the world—for cooking.

Since the Middle East conflict started in late February, imports have been interrupted. New Delhi has taken steps to guarantee that families and vital industries are sufficiently supplied, leaving many eateries, manufacturers, and power plants in the dark.

According to the government, there is no general fuel scarcity in India. Bulk and commercial LPG cylinder prices have been updated, according to the nation’s top energy marketing firm, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), a state-run enterprise.

The cost of a 19-kilogram LPG cylinder intended for commercial usage has increased by Rs993 ($10.50), according to IOCL’s price chart. In the capital city of New Delhi, that equates to an almost 48% increase. The mean rates of local levies differ by city.
