Man to Pay Dhs266,000 over Botched Investment Transaction, rules Dubai Court

One Arab convinced another to invest money in initiatives and deals such as buying vehicles promising big profits. The victim transferred money and handed him cash Dhs 366,000, of which he returned only Dhs 100,000. Dubai Civil Court has ordered that the plaintiff should be entitled to recover about Dhs266,000 additional Dhs50,000 as compensation for material and moral harms and 5 per cent yearly interest from the date of filing the legal claim until final payment.

The lawsuit dates back to July 2023 when the defendant convinced the plaintiff to send money to him to invest in projects which would fetch huge profits. The defendant later demanded additional money to participate in a vehicle purchase contract, claiming it was needed for administrative processes and customs charges.

Thus, the plaintiff conducted bank transfers and transferred the other amounts on a friend and handed over a further amount in cash, as required by the defendant. A report produced by the court-appointed financial expert said the total monies proved to have been transferred or turned over amounted to about Dhs 366,000.
