During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting in Pakistan on Wednesday, India reaffirmed its call for immediate changes to the UN Security Council (UNSC) in order to adapt to the evolving global order.
Speaking to the gathering in Islamabad, Indian External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar stated that the SCO must lead the charge in promoting “reformed multilateralism” and that no issue of such significance should be put on wait.
According to him, the UNSC must reimagine itself to become more democratic, accountable, transparent, efficient, effective, inclusive, and representative.
According to a transcript released by India’s foreign ministry, Jaishankar congratulated Pakistan on winning the presidency of the SCO’s Heads of Government Council. He offered Islamabad India’s “full support” during his remarks at the meeting. Although he stated that India was in favour of regional cooperation, he also emphasised the need of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and respect for one another. He stated in his address that cross-border operations that are marked by separatism, terrorism, and extremism are unlikely to promote connectivity, trade, energy flows, and people-to-people interactions concurrently.
