Korea Launches its First Robot Delivery Service Through a Food App

According to a report by Korean news agency Yonhap on Monday, the Republic of Korea’s first robot delivery service was introduced by a food delivery app.
According to Yogiyo, the food delivery app, the service was launched in the Songdo district of Incheon, roughly 40 kilometres west of Seoul, with plans for a future nationwide expansion.

The autonomous delivery robots will transport meals to places like apartment buildings, office buildings and universities within a 1.2-kilometer radius of the restaurants that are taking part. The company clarified that the robots are limited to making a single delivery per trip.

In accordance with applicable laws, its delivery robots have a maximum speed of 5.76 km/h and will slow down if they detect an object or person up ahead or are on a narrow road. In partnership with an autonomous robot service provider, Yogiyo claimed to have tested the robots’ self-driving capabilities.

According to Yogiyo, the meal delivery app, the service was launched in the Songdo neighbourhood of Incheon, roughly 40 kilometres west of Seoul, with future plans for a national rollout.Delivering food to places like apartment buildings, the autonomous delivery robots will work within a 1.2-kilometer radius of the restaurants that are involved.
