Monday Marks the Start of President Sheikh Mohamed’s State Visit to Italy

Monday marks the start of President Sheikh Mohamed’s state visit to Italy, where he will engage in high-level discussions with the Italian leadership to strengthen bilateral relations. According to state news agency Wam, the UAE leader will meet with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Matarella of Italy during the trip.

Under the framework of a strategic partnership between the countries, discussions will centre on advancing economic cooperation, investment, renewable energy, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and cross-cultural exchange.

Ms. Meloni’s visit in March 2023, during which she had important discussions with Sheikh Mohamed, strengthened ties between the UAE and Italy. They talked on how their nations may form a strategic alliance, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and the economy. In addition, they discussed sustainable development, clean technology, renewable energy, and how to deal with pressing problems like food security and climate change.

Plans to collaborate on the construction of an undersea interconnector for the export of renewable energy across the Adriatic were announced last month by the United Arab Emirates, Italy, and Albania. Ms. Meloni stated at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi that the agreement includes the transfer of green power generated in Albania to Italy via an underwater cable.
