The Future of UAE Relations and Antigua’s Resounding Election are Discussed by Ambassador Theon Ali

The outcome was evident when the votes were tallied in St. John’s last week. Prime Minister Gaston Browne was elected to a fourth term in a row after the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party won a resounding majority. The outcome indicated consistency at the highest level of government in the Caribbean, where political changes often remodel regimes.

The result upholds the current diplomatic trajectory between Antigua and Barbuda and the United Arab Emirates for the UAE and the Gulf region. Under the incoming administration, ongoing conversations about technology cooperation, investment, aviation, and renewable energy are anticipated to continue. For bilateral projects that need ongoing cooperation, long-term political continuity offers more assurance.

Through diplomatic interactions, investment talks, and broader collaboration in climate resilience, tourism, and financial services, ties between the United Arab Emirates and Antigua and Barbuda have gradually strengthened. As the UAE continues to forge closer relationships with expanding international markets, Antigua has established itself as a regional voice on sustainability and economic diversification within CARICOM.

The UAE and Antigua have long been working on establishing direct air links between our two countries,” stated Ambassador Theon Ali. This is neither a hopeful paragraph in a feasibility assessment, nor is it a new goal. Navigating complex air service agreements, route economics, and the operational challenges of long-haul travel to a small island market has been necessary for this active file. This is the unseen, sluggish, and crucial infrastructure of global collaboration.
