According to a statement made by the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai (RTA), work on the first air taxi station in the emirate will start this year.
Before the official operation, which is set to begin in 2026, the locations of air taxi stations will be made public, according to Khalid Al Awadhi, Director of the Public Transport Systems Department at the (RTA). Al Awadhi further clarified that the RTA would build four air taxi stations at various points around Dubai, carefully planning to link these stations to hotels, airports, and popular tourist spots.
He went on to clarify that the RTA is working to improve the infrastructure to meet the needs of air taxis at a press conference held on the fringes of the World Congress & Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS World Congress) in Dubai. It is anticipated that this initiative will provide users with a seamless and innovative mobility experience while also increasing the system’s overall efficiency.
He also mentioned the recent contract that was signed with Joby Aviation to produce a four-seater aeroplane with a top speed of 320 km/h.
He added that these projects, which aim to reduce travel times between locations, support the emirate’s vision of becoming a global leader in air travel. Dubai is well-positioned to become a smart and futuristic city.
