Shortly after taking office next month, President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to deny U.S.-born children born to undocumented parents the right to citizenship. Trump stated earlier this month that he will try to accomplish this through executive action in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Trump declared, “Yes, we’re going to end that, because it’s ridiculous.” However, it is quite improbable that birthright citizenship, which dates back to the US’s 14th Amendment of 1868 and the abolition of slavery, would be abolished.
