The President, His Excellency In response to the virus’s resurgence in Gaza, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has directed funding towards the delivery of a vital polio vaccination campaign there. The UAE has promised to donate $5 million to the campaign.

To halt the virus’s spread and avert a larger regional outbreak, over 640,000 Gazan children under the age of ten will receive two doses of the polio vaccine as part of a two-round campaign run in partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO), Unicef, and UNRWA.

On Sunday, September 1st, the campaign will launch on a staggered schedule, commencing in Central Gaza and proceeding to South and subsequently North Gaza. During area-specific humanitarian pauses, each phase will run for three days to allow community workers to reach children and children and families to access health facilities.

In preparation for distribution, about 1.26 million doses of the polio vaccine have been shipped to Gaza; an additional 400,000 doses should arrive shortly. Over 2,100 health professionals, including mobile teams, will assist in implementing the campaign’s two phases.
