In reaction to a drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz the day before, the US attacked Iran on Friday. The two nations established an interim agreement a week ago to start working to put an end to their months-long conflict and restore the vital waterway, and this is the biggest test to date.
According to US President Donald Trump, the drone attack broke the ceasefire. The strikes followed Trump’s statement to reporters that “you’ll find out” if the United States would react. According to US Central Command, the military targeted Iranian coastline radar stations as well as missile and drone bases.
Trump stated at the White House just before the US retaliated, “I don’t like the fact that they took a shot yesterday, actually four of them.” Trump responded, “They’re a little bit different,” when asked why strikes would occur given his insistence that negotiations with Tehran are going well.
Then he abruptly stopped answering questions, and reporters were escorted out of his office. Earlier on Friday, Ebrahim Azizi, the president of the national security commission of the Iranian parliament, responded to Trump on social media by stating that “the Strait of Hormuz is governed by Iran, so: Respect the rules” and to “not mistake control for escalation.”This is ceasefire management, not a breach of the truce, Azizi stated. President JD Vance stated on social media on Friday night that if there are difficulties with the ceasefire accord, Iran should “pick up the phone.
