Over 900 Humanitarian Workers had Been killed, Injured, or Kidnaped in Gaza by 2025, According to the United Nations

The United Nations reported a record number of attacks on humanitarian workers last year, attributed to the rising use of armed drones. The trend was described as “appalling”. In 2025, 907 aid workers were killed, maimed, or kidnaped, compared to 833 the previous year, according to the Aid Worker Security Database. This platform, financed by Canada and Australia, tracks key security occurrences involving aid workers.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the level of violence and encouraged states to follow the rules of war and hold criminals accountable. Boys grieve beside the bodies of Palestinian victims killed in an Israeli army strike on Gaza City’s port on Tuesday during their funeral. “Serving others has become more dangerous than ever,” he added, ahead of UN World Humanitarian Day rituals with flags at half-staff in New York and Geneva to remember those slain.

UN aid chief Tom Fletcher stated that the use of cheap and adaptable armed drones in conflicts has heightened hazards. Drone strikes killed three people, including a French relief worker, in Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo in March. Additionally, aid convoys in Sudan and Ukraine have been targeted on multiple occasions.

According to the database, Gaza was the most deadliest site for charity workers in 2025, with 186 killed last year. Sudan came in second place. Since the start of the Israel-Gaza war on October 7, 2023, the UN Palestinian refugee agency has reported at least 393 personnel deaths.
