Supported by a national ecosystem that has made education, scientific research, and innovation important pillars of development, Emirati women’s participation in science and technology is no longer just a noticeable presence but an active contribution to knowledge creation and shaping the future as artificial intelligence continues to advance at an accelerating rate.
Dr. Hanan Aldarmaki, Director of the Center of Teaching and Learning and Assistant Professor of Natural Language Processing at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), is one of the Emirati individuals who has made scientific research a career and an intellectual passion. His path combines advanced academic achievement, research, and contributions to the development of artificial intelligence technologies.
Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Aldarmaki noted the growing interest among Emirati students in this field and said Emirati women now have many opportunities to pursue higher education and build careers in scientific research and artificial intelligence within the nation, thanks to the support of the UAE leadership.
This support is evident in her personal experience. After completing postgraduate studies in the US and the UK, Aldarmaki returned to the UAE with the knowledge she had acquired to pursue a career in research and teaching and to increase the visibility and accessibility of this path for Emirati students who wanted to work in the field.
