In Gaza, which is governed by Hamas, the health ministry reported on Friday that 37 people had died in the Palestinian enclave in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of war fatalities to 45,436. In a statement, the ministry added that the October 7, 2023 strike by the Palestinian organization had set off a conflict between Israel and Hamas that lasted for more than 14 months and had left at least 108,038 people wounded.
Hamas claimed the Israeli military of invading the institution and forcing its residents to evacuate. In contrast, the Israeli military reported that it had launched an operation against Hamas near one of the few operational hospitals in northern Gaza. The operation, which took place close to Beit Lahia’s Kamal Adwan Hospital, came after the hospital said Thursday that five of its employees had been killed in an Israeli attack.
Since Israeli troops started conducting larger operations in northern Gaza in October, the military said in a statement, the hospital has become into “a key stronghold for terror organizations and continues to be used as a hideout for terrorist operatives.” The military noted, “The troops are carrying out targeted operations in the area while minimizing harm to patients, medical personnel, and uninvolved civilians.
